When we no longer take life for granted we become grateful for everything that we have. Assuming that we are entitled to anything in life robs us of our awe at the opportunity to be grateful.
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.
Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.
Henry Van Dyke
Gratitude connects us to the present moment. This very moment. And when you experience gratitude you essentially let go of your ego. Gratitude has a way of opening the heart to compassion and love. Experiencing gratitude can help us feel happier and more balanced, it uplifts our spirits and feeds our hearts.
